Kay Jay

Kay Jay was born in Bangladesh and raised in Switzerland a Bengali Dad and Sri Lankan Mom. His mother's love for music came first. At 14 he walked into hip hop through every door at once : rap, writing, and dance. Under the name Kai Jin he wrote and released his own music, on the artist's side of the mic. Years spent inside the culture, not next to it. He always loved to dance so he started to dans Hip hop and than then teaching it — passing the culture on to the ones coming up behind him. 

The decks came later, and they came naturally. Dancing taught him how a body answers a break. Writing taught him what a track is made of. Teaching taught him how to read a room. In 2011 he organised his first event in Lausanne ; in 2014 he fully embraced DJing and never stepped back and Kay Jay is born — residencies at Crapule in Fribourg and No Name in Lausanne, stages from Zürich to Lenzerheide, and Paléo Festival in 2024. In 2023, he co-founded the Nomad collective. For the past five years he's been bringing his own heritage into the mix — Oriental, Bollywood and South Asian sounds sitting next to dancehall, afro and latino. The last culture to reach his record bag was his own. He didn't come to the decks from outside the culture. He came from inside it.
